Spring is in the air here in Nursery, and we have been enjoying taking part in some lovely Springtime activities alongside our topic work. We have been making good use of the outdoors, and have enjoyed a birdwatch, making bird feeders and hanging them outdoors for the birds to eat!
We are very proud of Nursery who took part in our St.David's Day assembly, and worked hard on their lovely leek collage craft for our School Eisteddfod. All of the children took a pride in their work, and sat beautifully during the assembly. Ardderchog!
Out topic at the moment is 'Fairytales'. We have been learning all about 'The 3 Billy Goats Gruff' and 'Goldilocks and the 3 bears', making masks, tasting porridge, creating sound stories and grouping sets of 3, to name just a few activities! We have had lots of fun while learning new skills!
Oxford Reading Tree Books
We have been very lucky to have received a selection of lovely new books into Nursery. We all love these new exciting stories and have been talking about how to take care of them so that everyone can enjoy them. Your child will continue to bring a book home from school for you to share and enjoy with them, on a fortnightly basis. Books will be sent home on a Friday, and could they please be returned by the following Wednesday. Thankyou!
Literacy and Numeracy in Nursery
We have been working hard during our Carpet time using numbers, by counting, recognising numbers, number correspondence, aswell as starting to add on and subtract. The children love their daily activities, and these can easily be reinforced at home with everyday situations such as mealtimes, shopping and daily routines. We have also been working on recognising our names, looking at the sounds in them, and using different mark making equipment to draw and start to write.. Literacy and Numeracy features in everything we do here in Lower Foundation, through incidental situations such as 'play', to more structured activities which take place on a daily basis. At the heart of our planning, is the Foundation Phase philosophy that learning is, and should always be, fun!
Just a quick reminder that if your child is absent from school, could you please try your best to make contact with school at your earliest convenience. A phone call to our school office is ideal. For reasons of Health and Safety, we need to be able to account for each child's whereabouts during the morning. Thankyou for your co-operation.
We continue to look forward to finding out who will be our 'Star of the week' every Friday, and we now have two new awards in Nursery - the 'Good sitter' and 'Good friend' awards, which will each be given to one member of class on a weekly basis. Thankyou for remembering to send the special 'Star of the week' bag back into school on a Monday - we always enjoy talking about what the children bring! All of the awards link to PSD skills that we teach the children in Nursery.
As we approach the Easter break, we are enjoying a week of Easter activities, including an Easter egg hunt and making a lovely Easter craft, alongside learning about the Easter story and a game of Easter bingo. We are also looking forward to the Easter bonnet parade on Friday!
All that is left to do now is for the team here in Nursery to wish you and the children a lovely, relaxing Easter break - featuring the Easter bunny, of course!
