Year 3/ Blwyddyn 3 2019 - 2020
Mr Coppack and Mrs Cartwright
Welcome to Year 3. Croeso i Ddosbarth 3!
Mr Coppack and Mrs Cartwright welcome you to Year 3’s class page. Here you will find useful information about Year Three, including our current topics and recent news. Our teaching assistant in year three is Mrs Reynolds. Should you wish to discuss any aspect of your child’s development, please do not hesitate to arrange a meeting with Mr Coppack or Mrs Cartwright via the school office.
In Year 3, your child will continue to learn the Key Stage 2 curriculum. Compulsory national curriculum subjects at primary school include English, Maths, Science, Design and Technology, History, Geography, Art and Design, Music, PE, Swimming, ICT and Welsh.
Ysgol Derwen is moving towards implementing the new curriculum, which becomes statutory in 2022. The curriculum will become more child led with children taking more responsibility for their own learning.

Homework and Spellings
Homework books will be given out each Monday, (starting on Monday 9th September) and they are to be returned the following Monday.
Spelling tests will take place on Friday mornings. Your child will bring home a spelling book every Friday (starting on Friday 13th September.) The book will contain their spellings for a test the following Friday. Spelling lists for the whole half-term will be on the front inside cover of their homework books and can also be found on the school website. It may be a good idea to take a photograph of these lists on your phone just in case their homework book is left in school for any reason.
Both the spelling lists and the homework tasks can be downloaded from the files section below.
Summer Term 2020
This term is certainly going to be very different to what we are all used to. We hope you are all safe and well and enjoying the distance learning tasks set. Please remember, the weekly plan is only a guide. You do not have to complete all these tasks each week, they are just suggestions. Everyone has different home circumstances and it is difficult and stressful juggling working from home, managing personal circumstances and helping your children with their learning tasks, so please just do what you can.
Please feel free to complete any other activities you may come across that you think you might enjoy. The work on the school website and Google Classroom is exactly the same so it is entirely up to you which option you choose.
During a time like this when we are missing social interaction, it is important to stay in touch with each other. You can communicate via the ‘stream’ or weekly question on Google Classroom and share pictures or videos with your friends about what you have been up to.
It is also really important that we all take care of our health and wellbeing during these times, take time to enjoy the outdoors safely and get our daily exercise. We have been very lucky with the weather so far and hopefully this will continue!
We have loved seeing all of your work so far and enjoyed hearing about all of the things you have been doing at home.
The summer term news letter has been added at the bottom of the class page.
Stay safe Year 3 and we hope to see you all very soon.
