Year 2 / Blwyddyn 2 2019 - 2020
Year Two Teacher
Welcome to Year 2. Croeso i Ddosbarth 2!
Miss Lee, Mrs Hughes and Mrs Cleave would like to warmly welcome you to the Year 2 class page. We hope that you will be regular visitors so we can keep you up to date with what we are currently learning, any news and other key activities or events that may be taking place. Here you will also be able to find the Upper Foundation Phase newsletter and the spelling lists for each half term. These can be downloaded from the file links below.
About The Foundation Phase
In Year 2, your child will continue to learn through the Foundation Phase curriculum. The statutory Areas of Learning in the Foundation Phase are:
- Personal and Social Development, Well-being and Cultural Diversity
- Language, Literacy and Communication Skills
- Mathematical Development
- Welsh Language Development
- Knowledge and Understanding of the World
- Physical Development
- Creative Development
The children continue to develop these areas of learning through directed activities in class, as well as completing more independent activities in our provision areas, both indoors and outdoors.
Ysgol Derwen is moving towards implementing the new curriculum, which becomes statutory in 2022. The curriculum will become more child led with children taking more responsibility for their own learning.
Summer Term 2020
This term is certainly going to be very different to what we are all used to. I hope you are all safe and well and enjoying the distance learning tasks set. Please remember, the weekly plan is only a guide. You do not have to complete all these tasks each week, they are just suggestions. Please feel free to complete any other activities you may come across that you think you might enjoy. You can access the tasks provided each week either on the school website under the ‘Distance Learning’ tab or on Google Classroom. It is your choice about how you complete the work and how much of it you do.
During a time like this when we are missing social interaction, it is important to stay in touch with each other. You can communicate via the ‘stream’ on google classroom and share pictures or videos with your friends about what you have been up to.
It is also really important that we all take care of our health and wellbeing during these times, take time to enjoy the outdoors safely and get our daily exercise. We have been very lucky with the weather so far and hopefully this will continue!
Our topic this half term is Minibeasts. I have really enjoyed seeing all your work around this topic. You have made some fantastic minibeasts and habitats out of natural resources and have taken the opportunity to spend time outdoors, whilst completing tasks set.
The newsletter for the Summer Term has been added to the files on here. This provides some information about our topic after May Half Term and the numeracy and literacy we will be focusing on.
Stay safe Year 2 and I hope to see you all very soon.
